چکیده

In this paper, we develop a pseudo empirical likelihood approach to incorporating auxiliary information into estimates from complex surveys. In simple random sampling without replacement, the method reduces to the empirical likelihood approach of Chen and Qin (1993). We show that the method is asymptotically equivalent to a generalized regression estimator in the case of estimating a mean or population distribution function with known population means for a vector of auxiliary variables. We go on to investigate, in a simple case, the incorporation of more complex auxiliary information, and demonstrate the resulting increase in efficiency using the proposed approach both theoretically and through a limited simulation.

Pseudo–Empirical Likelihood Inference for Multiple Frame Surveys

This article presents a pseudo–empirical likelihood approach to inference for multiple-frame surveys. We establish a unified framework for point and interval estimation of finite population parameters, and show that inferences on the parameters of interest making effective use of different types of auxiliary population information can be conveniently carried out through the constrained maximiza...

Empirical Likelihood Approach and its Application on Survival Analysis

A number of nonparametric methods exist when studying the population and its parameters in the situation when the distribution is unknown. Some of them such as "resampling bootstrap method" are based on resampling from an initial sample. In this article empirical likelihood approach is introduced as a nonparametric method for more efficient use of auxiliary information to construct...

Bayesian pseudo-empirical-likelihood intervals for complex surveys

Bayesian methods for inference on finite population means and other parameters by using sample survey data face hurdles in all three phases of the inferential procedure: the formulation of a likelihood function, the choice of a prior distribution and the validity of posterior inferences under the design-based frequentist framework. In the case of independent and identically distributed observat...

Empirical Likelihood Methods for Sample Survey Data: An Overview

The use of empirical likelihood (EL) in sample surveys dates back to Hartley and Rao (1968). In this paper, an overview of the developments in empirical likelihood methods for sample survey data is presented. Topics covered include EL estimation using auxiliary population information and EL confidence intervals. Issues related to pseudo-EL estimation for general sampling designs are also discus...

Bootstrap Procedures for the Pseudo Empirical Likelihood Method in Sample Surveys

Pseudo empirical likelihood ratio confidence intervals for finite population parameters are based on asymptotic χ2 approximation to an adjusted pseudo empirical likelihood ratio statistic, with the adjustment factor related to the design effect. Calculation of the design effect involves variance estimation and hence requires second order inclusion probabilities. It also depends on how auxiliary...
